Harvesting

It's been a busy, bountiful few days. Today we harvested a bunch of plums, our first tomatoes, and some amazingly delicious strawberries. All that sweetness coming out of my own dirt seems quite symbolic right now.

Life with the kids keeps me hopping, of course, but we're having lots of fun. BB is talking more and more, getting very excited that we're starting to understand her! She is curious about everything, wanting to do everything by herself, including choosing which tomato she'll try.

Alas, she didn't care for it at all. The strawberries were a hit, though. They are little red bites of perfection -- not at all like the ones from earlier in the season, though they are from the same plants. The ones we harvested today were plump, sweet, exploding with flavor. BB and I gobbled them up! (BJ was partial to the plums, which are also incredibly good this year.)

Other fun with BB: playing soccer with the plasticware (kick the container, instead of kick the can?) playing Ring Around The Rosy with her brother, and requesting songs by name, especially ones we've made up for her ("The Pooh on the bus goes "honey honey honey!"). BJ is telling stories, drawing pictures, and getting excited about the prospect of preschool (so am I!).

It's so much easier to enjoy EVERYTHING when I'm rested! BB has now slept several times from 8 pm to 5 am, even 5:30 am. She still has a tendency to wake around 3 am, but S is being wonderful about taking care of her, and in exchange I'm getting up with the kids in the morning. Works out pretty well -- certainly an improvement over where we were a week ago. Plus the kids are both napping well, and I'm also managing to get some rest during the day. Yay us!

Too much rest can be a mixed blessing, though.... we missed out on a play date this afternoon because I was napping with BJ, woke up late, and then both BJ and BB continued with their marathon naps well beyond when we should have left for the park. (Sorry, A! We miss you and C!)

It's especially helpful that I'm paying down my sleep debt because I've been up late every night this week, using every spare moment I can get. Lots of work to do for my Etsy shop, completing custom orders and making trips to the post office. Just found out that I'll be helping to fill the Etsy booth at the Renegade Craft Festival, which will be my first time ever doing something like that. Also preparing for the upcoming trunk show at the end of the month-- and with all the recent sales, my inventory is getting low.

All very exciting!!! So I'm beading like mad and not minding it a bit. And as if that weren't enough, my plans for a second Etsy shop are starting to come together -- stay tuned for details!
