Nice list, Jen!
We are Miyazaki fans over here, too. I think Spirited Away is my favorite, though Totoro is great, too. I keep hoping Ponyo on the Cliff will get released over here soon.
BTW--Have you seen Grave of the Fireflies? It's a non-Miyazaki Studio Ghibli production. It is one of the few movies where I absolutely bawled my eyes out. It's very sad, but very good. You can borrow it, if you'd like.
now that's just not fair! i made myself stop at 100. i really enjoy your list, so many things on it make me happy as well.
and the real credit for the list goes to elizabeth beck at e.beck.artist blog. and she's a hoot to read, too, as she is a very happy person in love with color and collage paints beautiful and happy things.
Thanks, Cathy! Yeah, I had a hard time stopping the list -- but I was having such fun doing it, and the whole point was the recognition of happiness, right? So I kept going (and going....)
and thanks too, Julie! S saw your comment and informed me that we do, in fact, own a copy of Grave of the Fireflies: "But I haven't told you about it or asked you to watch it because I think it would be too depressing for you. You'd watch it and think it was beautiful but at the end you'd turn to me and say, WHY did you let me watch that???" And he does tend to be right about these things.
Have you guys seen "The Cat Returns" S asks? A much more cheerful flick
It's tough for me to pick a favorite Miyazaki, but Kiki's Delivery Service would definitely be up there, as would Spirited Away. Though I also LOVE Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle....
we're big miyazaki fans, too. i love tortorro, and princess mononoke, but don't recommend that one for the kids for at least 10 years. kiki's is my old standby fav, and spirited away, castle in the sky....
