A Thousand Words

No doubt about it -- I'd rather write a thousand words about each of my kids than try to wrangle BB or BJ into getting a good posed picture taken. And if both of them are supposed to look nice at the same time? Fuggedaboutit!

But I need a nice picture of me and the kids -- a Mama's Magic Studio interview feature is in the works, and when someone is kind enough to help spread the word about me and my little business, I like to do whatever I can to make their job easier. So the hunt was on for a pic in which all three of us looked presentable.

We have lots (and lots) of candid shots. In a few of them, both kids look halfway decent together. But most of them are taken by me, so obviously that doesn't take care of it. Plan B: get S to take something this weekend.

Easier said than done, of course. (Dad, where are ya when I need ya?) And while none of them were exactly what I'd hoped for, we did get some nice shots, and no tears were shed in the process. Here are the ones I liked best.

If only BJ didn't have that dazed and confused look, this would have been fine, if a little boring...

"Okay, everybody look at something else!"

I was really, really tempted to use this one!


When it became abundantly clear that the "look at the camera and smile" approach was going nowhere, I snipped a few blossoms to see what would happen. The kids enjoyed playing with the flowers. All these are from a single glorious sunflower plant by the driveway.BB wanted to make the flowers "kiss" each other. "Kiss, Mommy!" S

The umbrella had promise, though none of the shots we took with it made anything close to the final cut. Would be fun to try again with it another time.

And this is the one I ended up submitting as part of my interview:
We all look reasonably pleasant, I like the interaction between us, and I'm not embarrassed to have my name and business associated with this image. So there ya go! (Though I'm still halfway tempted to send along the one of all of us sticking out our tongues!)
