Tonight, getting ready for bed, the kids and I started discussing dreams. We debated whether dreams are about one thing or many things. I said it could be either. BB piped up, "I dream about a lot of things."
"Like what do you dream about?" I asked.
Her reply: "I dream about bicycles, acorns, and sometimes bears."
BJ wanted to know if it was real bears. After some deliberation, it was decided that they were real teddy bears.

Last week, in the midst of our ongoing Halloween preparations, BJ announced that he knew what ghosts were. Of course I asked what that might be. He informed me, "Ghosts are little scraps of dead people. Without any legs." So now you know.

BJ has been wondering about heaven -- People Heaven, as distinct from Cat Heaven or Dog Heaven, which he knows all about as a result of Cynthia Rylant's books. The other night, he told me that in People Heaven, God makes beds out of clouds. And blankets out of clouds. But there are no pillows in People Heaven. Because God makes the beds comfy enough with the clouds and blankets. They say that God is in the details, but I confess I hadn't expected those details to include specifics about bed linens in the afterlife.
